Last year, March 2006, I was awarded a mini-grant from DTE Energy for a lesson in alternative fuel sources entitled Energy Rockets. The grant was used to purchase supplies for students to make mini rockets and model cars using hydrogen as a fuel source. Students have to utilize their chemistry knowledge to create the right ratio of hydrogen to oxygen in order to mobilize their vehicles. While the lesson was intended for 11th grade Biology 2 students, modifications could be made so that it would be appropriate for any high school chemistry, enviromental science or earth science classroom.
