My Teaching Philosophy |
A belief in the 'value of education' is the key that makes me be a part of the teaching profession. Teaching is a lifelong learning process of learning new philosophies, strategies, learning from the parents and community, learning from colleagues, and especially learning from the children. Children have taught me to open my mind and my heart to the joys, the innocence, and the diversity of ideas in the world. Each classroom presents a unique community of learners that varies not only in abilities, but also in learning styles. My role as a teacher is to give children the tools with which to cultivate their own gardens of knowledge. To accomplish this goal, I belive in the use of combination of constuctivist and learning theory. I try and make learning, a hands on experience by incorporating themes, integrated units, projects, group work, individual work, in order to make children active learners. I try to relate learning to the real world community to help children become caring and active members of society. The coming 21st century brings with it a 'read and write' web to everyone and I feel each child should be prepared well to be a efficient and a wise user of the information available. The students entering the professional world will need these capabilities to be successful. Technology skills are an integral part of the students learning process and good skills developed would be a real asset to the students.Students can use technology in all the disciplines and this also becomes a basis to interrelate all the different disciplines. I believe each and every child has the potential to be unique and special. I help children to develop their potential by discovering who they are and by helping them learn to express their own opinions and nurture their own ideas.Believing in oneself also makes them better teamplayers, another very important skill to be a successful individual. I have a vision of a world where people learn to respect, accept, and embrace the differences between themselves, as the basis of what makes life so beautiful.
